You know, every once in a while you need a fresh dose of some real hip hop. Today's offering is from the always sweet, always busy Jane Dupree. We at Studio 1403 have known her for a very long time and she is one of the harder working DJs around Nashville (as opposed to the majority lazy rock star fucks with herpes) Anyways, Smoke Break Volume 4 finds Ms Dupree basically throwing the kitchen sink of sound into a half hour of a mix. You get sirens, breaks, 4 on the floor, buzzy baselines, lo fi vocals, ghetto chants... you get my drift. This is the perfect mix for the middle of the week when you just can't seem to wake up and that double shot espresso coffee no soy latte crap thing you order at Starbucks ain't workin. By the way, she also runs Disco Terror Squad, a blog about music where they actually don't talk shit about the artists. Interesting concept.

The new H1N1 vaccine is coming, maybe forcibly to a city near you. Arm yourself (no pun intended) with the facts b4 you succumb to big pharma and corporate media hype. The vaccine manufacturers are enjoying immunity arising from lawsuits for wrongful death (hmmm I wonder why?), the US gov't alone has spent billions to buy ingredients for a strand of flu no more serious than what you get every year (not me I don't sick). To date only 593 people have died in the US from the H1N1 virus, most with other underlying health problems, according to the CDC the "normal" flu kills around 36,000 every year.

Sounds like a pandemic to me!!!

As the cash register keeps ringing for big pharma (can you say BAILOUT children), this has all makings of gov't sponsored fear mongering and media paranoia (can you say War on Terror children).

So the good people at Studio 1403 used to throw a small event every third friday in the heart of the East Nashville ghetto called House + Base. Along with AO & Blond!e, we managed to bring in talented creative people like Rx2 & Oliver Dodd and provide a forum for new music, brand new studio creations, different dj sets and the marriage of red bull cola and jim beam. Alas, the night came to an end with very little support. We think the white people were scared to come out to the hood and the black people were scared of the music... or maybe everyone was scared that Blond!e was really gonna play a DONK set. Anyways, House + Base Dub was born on the same premise, experimenting to infinite end in the studio and coming up with a very unlikely creation capturing that moment in time.
